High School Bans Backpacks, Students Retaliate With Inventive Alternatives

From the educational stress to the brutal social hierarchy, there are many aspects of being in high school that suck. One that often gets overlooked, though, is the sheer quantity of crap that you're expected to carry around with you for eight or more hours a day. Even in our digital age, the amount of textbooks piled onto your average sophomore is probably greater than the number of books most adults read in a year. It's a no-brainer that a backpack is still a school essential — although not everybody seems to think this.

An anonymous high school has recently gone viral for its decision to ban bags, apparently enforcing the rule after concerns about pupils bringing guns to school. Its intentions may have been geared towards student safety, but a video posted by @drippy.peanut reveals that retaliation was swift and creative. The footage shows some wild examples of objects students were using to get around the ban, including a fishing net and a large M&M figurine. While viewers were quick to compliment the ingenuity on display, it doesn't detract from the spectacular failure of the policy. You can hide a lot more in a trash can, after all.
