Everyone loves to mock Olive Garden for their iconic breadsticks and overcooked, highly caloric pasta dishes, but do you remember being a kid, twitching with excitement in the backseat of your parents' minivan on the way to a fancy evening at the local Olive Garden, or Sizzler, or TGI Friday's? We've all got that one place we remember feeling like a decadent treat when we were kids, but seem pretty underwhelming now as adults. @johnbcrist asked the people of Twitter to share the spots they used to think were super glamorous, and the replies made us feel pretty damn nostalgic. Check out some highlights we grabbed from the amusing thread.

My sister just said, and I quote “when I was little I thought ‘when I get rich I’m gonna go to PF Chang’s’.”

I mean come on it looks like a Tudor building. All anniversaries and birthdays we dressed up and hoped for a table in the fireplace room pic.twitter.com/ImqaDzABAj

Casa Bonita in Denver. Mexican and even had divers as a show. Was always a vacation stop when we were kids. Went years later as an adult. 😳🙄 lordy.

Red Lobster! That was a “fancy” restaurant back in the day but it’s... not great?? Their cheesy biscuits are not included in this response because they’re apart of a different conversation. They’re amazing. Red Lobster just... isn’t!

Old-school Pizza Hut, where you sat inside of a Hut and were served Pizza or fetched it from a hot bar, was good. It was a pure and good place. Then they removed all the good, piece by piece, and entirely transitioned to takeout and delivery.

My parents were from NYC, but we lived in Georgia when I was little. As a result, we spent many hours on the road between the two places. Whenever we approached the SC/NC border, I would BEG my parents to stop at this magical place: pic.twitter.com/MpT6fKCXcY

I asked my grandparents if we could go inside and eat at Popeyes. They told me you had to have a membership to eat inside. I believed that for years. Now I know they just wanted to pick up drive thru and go home.

When I was a kid living in Florida there was a place called Sweden House Smorgasbord. There were a couple actually. My 7-year-old mind I thought it was the fanciest restaurant on earth. Anyone else remember it? pic.twitter.com/7qldOKnq6R

I always thought that Outback Steakhouse was a super nice restaurant. I’ve since realised it’s about the lowest end a steakhouse can get.

My grandparents used to take me to a place called Sambo's when I was really little and I thought it was something exotic, because they had murals of tigers and a weird unicycle riding magic-user. Now I realize it wasn't nice on lots of levels.

Growing up in Hawaii I thought Bob's Big Boy was a fancy burger restaurant. There was only 1 on the island and it was near downtown, 35 min away. Looking back, it might have been the fact we had to drive out of the city I lived in that made it seem fancy 😅 pic.twitter.com/TQjqwbxUtx

Old Spaghetti Factory in Trolley Square in downtown SLC, Utah. We rarely went downtown, but when we did, it was usually to go there. And I always thought it was super fancy, especially with the trolley car inside the restaurant. pic.twitter.com/JfC18h2Ezo

I grew up in upper mid-west and there was a Bonanza in my home town. I can envision it now - you would order your steaks in a buffet style line then pickup your sides and drinks then they'd grill up your steaks and have them ready in 5-10 minutes. pic.twitter.com/NaghWiymh2
